Scientists searching for lobster larvae on the Investigator research vessel instead found a cluster of four volcanoes about five kilometres underwater, thought to be about 50m years old. The deep-sea volcanoes lie about 250km offshore from Sydney and although there is no risk of eruption, experts say they could shed light on the history of Australia and New Zealand's geography.
