Sugary drinks kill thousands of people

According to a recent study from Tufts University, one in every 100 deaths from obesity related diseases is caused by sugary drinks. In fact, 184,000 deaths across the globe every year have now been linked to sugar-sweetened beverages. 76 percent of those deaths occur in low or middle income countries. Across Latin America and particularly in Mexico, homemade sugary drinks (and of course their industrially produced counterparts) are immensely popular.

Therefore, it should come as little surprise that Mexico has the highest death rate from sugary beverage consumption. However, what is surprising is the sheer scale of Mexico's death rate compared to other countries. These drinks kill an average of 24,000 Mexicans every year - 404.5 adults per million of the country's population.
